“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.” – Revelation 22:14
Think about that one white shirt you love. You wear it once and somehow it finds every spill. That’s our life. We try to look clean on the outside. Good job, good Instagram, good reputation, but we know what our robe really looks like when no one is watching. The lies we told, the people we hurt, the things we did in secret.
And this verse says God is not looking for people who pretend their robe is clean. He’s looking for people who wash it. Washing means you admit, “Lord, I’m dirty and I can’t clean myself.” You don’t wash your robe with more hustle or by trying to be a better person. You wash it in what Jesus already did for you. Every day you come and say, “Lord, forgive me, clean me again.” And He does. 1 John 1:7 says the blood keeps cleansing us.
And look at what happens when you let Him wash you.
First, you get your right back. You know how when Adam and Eve sinned, they were chased out of the garden and they lost access to the tree of life? Sin made us lose our rights. But when you are washed, God puts your name back on the deed. You suddenly have a right to peace again. A right to joy again. A right to eternal life. Not because you earned it, but because you were washed. The devil will keep bringing up your past, but your past is under the blood. You have a right now.
And finally, you get to go home. I don’t know if you’ve ever travelled for a long time and you just want to enter your own gate. That’s what heaven is. This world is not our home. All the stress, the bills, the sickness, the heartbreak. But the Bible says there is a city where there is no more crying at night, no more hospital beds, no more funerals. And the gates of that city are open, but only for the washed.
So today, the real question is not “are you trying your best?” The real question is, “is your robe washed?”
If not, you can wash it today.
