Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. – Ephesians 4:29

Apostle Paul gives us a very simple rule for how we talk to each other in Ephesians 4 29. He tells us to stop letting bad or rotten talk come out of our mouths and instead say things that help build people up based on what they need in the moment. In a world full of careless words and gossip that hurts people, this verse calls us to a much better way. Words carry real weight and they either make our relationships worse or make them better. Every single day we get to choose between adding to the negativity or saying something that genuinely helps.

The best part of this verse is that it does not just tell us to keep quiet when we are angry. It pushes us to actively encourage the people around us. True encouragement means paying attention and noticing when someone is carrying a heavy load or going through a tough time. When we use our words to comfort a friend or offer good advice or give someone hope we are showing them God love. We stop thinking only about ourselves and start caring about how we affect others.

Our words always leave a mark on the people who listen to us. When we let God help us control what we say our everyday conversations can actually give people strength and encouragement. Let us ask God today for the wisdom to hold back hurtful words and the courage to speak kind ones so people walk away feeling better because they talked to us.
