“So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.” – 2 Timothy 2:22
Paul doesn’t say sit down and reason with temptation. He says run. Like Joseph did when he left his coat in that house. He didn’t stay to explain himself. He got out.
“Youthful passions” are those urges that feel good now but leave you empty later. It could be lust, it could be pride, it could be the need to always be right, to always be seen, to always be scrolling. The enemy knows what button to press in you. So don’t fight it in the same room. Change the room. Delete it. Walk away. Call someone. Running is not weakness. It is wisdom. It is protecting the future God has for you.
You can’t just run away from stuff and leave your hands empty. You have to run toward something. Paul tells us exactly what to chase: righteousness, faith, love, and peace. Chase doing the right thing even when it costs you. Chase trusting God when you don’t understand. Chase loving people who don’t love you back. Every morning ask God, “Help me take one step toward You today.” Little steps, done daily, turn into a life that looks like Christ.
And here’s the part we skip. “Along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.” God never meant for you to fight this battle solo. The people around you will either pull you down or pull you up.
Find the friends who pray with you. Find the ones who tell you the truth in love. Find the ones who are also chasing Jesus. When you’re weak, they’ll be strong. When they’re tired, you’ll be strong. We need each other.
So run from what’s killing you. Run to what’s growing you. And run with people who are running to Jesus too.
