If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9

Transparency is basically the art of being seen through. When a person or situation is transparent, it is easier for another person or people to fully see through and understand the pros and cons that come with it. One of the key components that enhance transparency is accountability, scripture tells us that to whom much is given, much is expected. God expects us to be accountable for whatever blessing or position he has given us. Not only that, our verse for today teaches us that He also expects us to be accountable for our actions.

Confessing your sins to God is not just coming clean with Him, it signifies a desire to be transparent and accountable on our path, it allows God to fully accept us for being honest with Him. There are many scriptures in the Bible that support this notion – in Romans 10 we learn that with the heart we believe and with our lips we confess unto salvation. Zaccheaus took a bold step in confessing his sin to Jesus, after which he made the necessary arrangements to rectify any damage he might have caused in the process of cheating people.

We learn that David ordered that Uriah be sent to the forefront of the battle and had him killed so he could lay with his wife, Bethsheba. The prophet of the Lord by name Nathan, by the inspiration of God called him out on this sin. David, realizing how gravely he had erred went into solitude, fasted and prayed for seven days for the forgiveness of his sin – and the Lord forgave him.

His story is proof that there is no sin God cannot forgive, there is no depth God cannot go, the only thing He requires from us is transparency. Today, I want to urge all of us to understand that God cannot be mocked, He sees through us already, He sees through our sins but if we could muster the courage to come clean with Him, He is just and faithful to forgive us of all our sins and purify us from all iniquities. This is the word of God. Amen.
