“Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”- John 11:40

John 11 recounts the story of Lazarus, a friend of Jesus. Not much detail is given about Lazarus and Jesus’s relationship except that his sisters, Martha and Mary described him as “the one Jesus loved.” Now Lazarus was sick, and his sisters sent for Jesus, knowing the relationship their brother had with Jesus, they were very positive he would come hastily; but Jesus did not come. He only goes to Judea four days after his friend had been buried. When Martha, the sister of Lazarus saw Jesus, she said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.” Jesus says to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” He goes on and commands Lazarus to come out, and he does. Four days after his burial he is resurrected from the dead.

This is a passage of unwavering faith in the power of God. Jesus knew He had power to raise Lazarus from the dead, and it didn’t matter if he had been buried for four days. As a matter of fact, if Lazarus had been buried for weeks, Jesus would have still resurrected Him. As people of faith and heirs to the promise, Jesus has given us authority over dead situations. “I have given you power to tread serpents and scorpions underfoot, and to trample on all the power of the Enemy; and in no case shall anything do you harm.” – Luke 10:19. The reason many of us are unable to walk in this light is due to a lack of belief. Like Martha, we are more fixated on the severity of the situation than the power of God.

Today, Jesus is counting on us to take our place and exercise the authority He gave to us over sicknesses, death, scarcity, stagnation and all other evil that plague us. He assures us in John 12:14 that “whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do.” Even more is expected of us, I pray we overcome any hindrance and fully embrace this truth, so we can walk in this light. Amen.

  2. Amazing post. Sometimes I wonder if Jesus purposefully allowed Lazarus to be dead for 4 days to add emphasis on the miracle. Maybe that’s why God may take some time to heal us. The longer we suffer, the greater the miracle. Blessings.
