We’re in the moments leading to Jesus’ arrest, beloved. The tension is building, and Jesus knows what’s coming. Yet, he goes out to the Mount of Olives, a familiar place of prayer, to prepare himself. “Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.” (Luke 22:39, NIV)

Beloved, we see Jesus in this verse setting an example for us. Even in the face of betrayal and suffering, he prioritized prayer and fellowship with God. As he headed to Gethsemane, he didn’t go alone; he took his disciples along. This shows us the importance of community and accountability in our walk with God. Who are the people you journey with in faith?

Jesus’ actions also teach us about obedience and surrender. He knew what lay ahead – the cross, the pain, the sacrifice. Yet, he went to the Mount of Olives, a place of prayer and solitude, to seek God’s will. How often do we shy away from difficult situations, seeking comfort instead of God’s presence? Let’s follow Jesus’ example and seek God in our struggles.
