“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” (Luke 18:17)
These words from Jesus remind us that humility and childlike faith are essential for entering the kingdom of God. Children are often seen as the epitome of trust and dependence, and Jesus uses this as a model for how we should approach our relationship with Him. Just as a child trusts their parents for provision and protection, we must trust in God’s goodness and sovereignty in our lives.
As adults, it’s easy to get caught up in our own self-sufficiency and think that we can earn our way into God’s kingdom through our good deeds and accomplishments. But Jesus says that’s not how it works. Instead, we must come to Him with humble hearts, acknowledging our need for Him and trusting in His love and mercy. This requires a willingness to let go of our pride and self-reliance, and instead, receive God’s grace and love with open hearts.
May we learn to receive the kingdom of God like little children, with simplicity, trust, and humility. May we recognize our need for God and trust in His goodness, rather than trying to earn our way through our own efforts. As we do, we’ll discover the joy and freedom that come from living in relationship with our Heavenly Father, and we’ll be able to enter the kingdom of God with childlike wonder and awe.
