Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights – James 1:17
My dear brothers and sisters, our verse for today point to God as the only source of every good and perfect gift. This signifies that every true gift, be it spiritual or physical, seen or unseen, comes from Him. I am certain that we all, one way or another, have encountered a person who takes credit for their wealth, wisdom, social stature or family. However, it is important to understand that even for such people who may not necessarily believe in God, He is still their source.
In Matthew 6:25 – 34, Jesus taught His disciples not to worry about tomorrow because He wanted them to trust completely in God’s provision and care. By extension, He is teaching us also that just as the Father feeds the birds of the air and clothes the lilies of the field, He would surely care for us. His whole point stemmed from the truth that we are God’s priority, and He longs to take care of us. Moreover, not everything that appears “good” in the world is truly good in the eyes of God. The verse reminds us that only the gifts that come from Him are perfect; meaning they are complete, pure, and lead us closer to righteousness. What the world offers often comes with strings attached: wealth that breeds greed, fame that invites pride, and pleasure that dulls the soul. But what God gives brings peace, growth, and lasting joy. His blessings do not just satisfy for a moment; they transform our hearts and align us with His divine purpose.
Beloved, things may not be going as planned. You may have encountered a bad run, a dry season, sickness, joblessness or anything at all that is stealing your peace. I want to encourage you to look to our Father, who is the source of every good and perfect gift. I want to challenge you to keep your eyes firm on the Father or light, whose nature never changes. Let us trust that He is working something good for our growth and salvation. Let us live each day with thankful hearts, acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from Him. And as we receive His blessings, may we also become channels of that same goodness to others. Amen.
