My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. – Job 42:5

Beloved in the Lord, our verse for today captures a profound moment of transformation in Job’s life. After enduring immense suffering and wrestling with questions of God’s justice and ways, Job finally experiences the mighty presence of God in chapter 41, this encounter brings him to a place of awareness that God had always been with him. It is a shift from hearing about God through tradition, teachings, or others’ experiences to having a direct, personal revelation of God’s presence and reality.

In this statement, Job expresses a humbling realization of the vast difference between knowing about God and truly seeing Him. “Hearing” represents a more distant knowledge, perhaps theoretical or secondhand. “Seeing” implies a vivid, personal experience of God’s majesty, power, and mystery. Job’s journey leads him from questioning and confusion to a place of awe and worship, where he encounters God in a way that transforms his understanding and perspective. It’s a reminder that a personal encounter with God brings a depth of knowledge and relationship beyond what we might learn through others.

May we too long for and experience this kind of encounter with God, where our “eyes see” Him in the midst of our journeys. Whether in times of suffering, joy, or seeking, may we move from a place of hearing about God to beholding Him in revelation and truth. In seeing God, we find a transformation of our perspective, a deepening of our faith, and a posture of worship that aligns our hearts with His will and ways. Like Job, may our encounters with God lead us to humility, awe, and a deeper trust in His sovereign wisdom and love.
