I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. – John 15:15

A friend is a person with whom you have a bond of mutual affection and trust, someone who provides support, and someone you enjoy spending time with. Subconsciously, we all have a person or people we feel most comfortable around; even if there are many people we consider friends. This is usually because overtime these people have proven themselves worthy of our trust and loyalty. In our verse for today, Jesus elevates his relationship with the disciples from a servant-master status to friendship because He considered them not only as companions, but worthy stewards of the mysteries of God.

Christ revealed the things of the father to the disciples because they walked with Him, and they did as He said, meeting all conditions necessary for an eternal friendship. “You are my friend if you do as I command.” – John 15:14.  If we too, dedicate our lives to walking with Christ  in obedience and faithfulness, we will be considered friends of God. We can take proactive steps to improve our relationship with God by studying and meditating scripture, spending time praying and witnessing about the good news of Christ.

God is looking forward to being our friend, He’s already taken the first step by dying for our sins. Today, He is counting on us to take the next step by opening up our hearts to Him. “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” – Revelations 3:20. It is my prayer that we open up the doors of our heart to Him so He can come in to dine with us. Amen.
