“Do not deceive yourselves. If you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become ‘fools’ so that you may become wise.” (1 Corinthians 3:18)

Through our verse for today, God is challenging our perception of wisdom and encourages us to rethink our priorities. The world often values intelligence, achievement, and self-sufficiency, but God’s wisdom is rooted in humility, dependence, and surrender. To become wise in God’s eyes, we must be willing to let go of our own understanding and embrace a different perspective – one that prioritizes faith, love, and service.

The call to become “fools” in this verse doesn’t mean being stupid or irrational. Rather, it means being willing to appear foolish to the world in order to gain true wisdom in God’s eyes. This requires humility, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to following Jesus. By embracing this mindset, we can experience a deeper understanding of God’s ways and live out our faith with greater authenticity.

Let us not be deceived by the world’s standards of wisdom. Instead, may we seek to become wise in God’s eyes, even if it means appearing foolish to others. May we prioritize humility, dependence, and love, and may our lives reflect the wisdom that comes from following Jesus. By doing so, we can experience the true wisdom that comes from God.
