“But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.” (Matthew 22:31-32)

In this passage, Jesus addresses the Sadducees’ question about the resurrection, pointing them to God’s revelation in Exodus. Jesus affirms that God is the God of the living, not the dead. This declaration underscores the reality of life beyond physical death and highlights God’s enduring relationship with His people. In response to a question from the Sadducees, who were trying to trap Him with a hypothetical scenario about a woman who had married seven brothers. Jesus pointed to God’s statement to Moses, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,” to show that God is the God of the living, implying that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob must be alive in some way, even after physical death.

Jesus’ words offer profound comfort and hope to those who grieve or face mortality. They remind us that our relationship with God transcends earthly bounds. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob may have passed away, but their connection with God remains unbroken. This truth empowers us to trust in God’s goodness and promises, even in the face of uncertainty or loss.

As followers of Jesus, let us cling to the hope of the resurrection and the promise of eternal life. May we live with confidence in God’s power to sustain us, even beyond physical death. Let us share this hope with others, that they too may experience the life-transforming power of Jesus’ teachings. He is the God of the living; let this truth guide and comfort us.
