We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. (Romans 15:1)

In this verse, the apostle Paul reminds us that as Christians, we have a responsibility to one another. Those of us who are “strong” in our faith – who have a deeper understanding of God’s Word, who have experienced His presence and power in our lives – have a duty to bear with those who are “weak”. This means being patient with those who are struggling, who are doubting, or who are simply not as far along in their faith journey as we are.

But what does it mean to “bear with” someone? It means to put up with their weaknesses and failings, to be willing to help them and support them, even when it’s difficult or inconvenient. It means being willing to listen to them, to encourage them, and to pray for them. And it means being willing to put their needs ahead of our own desires, to “not please ourselves” as Paul puts it.

So let us take Paul’s words to heart, dear friends. Let us look for ways to bear with one another, to support and encourage each other in our faith journeys. Let us be willing to put others first, to prioritize their needs and well-being above our own desires. May we be a community of believers who reflect the love and compassion of Christ, and may we bring glory to Him in all that we do.
