“Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” – Matthew 11:6
And blessed is he who does not take offense at Me. These words of Jesus in Matthew 11:6 are a powerful reminder that following Him requires a willingness to trust and obey, even when we don’t fully understand. Jesus spoke these words in response to John the Baptist’s question about whether He was the Messiah. John had been expecting a more conventional Messiah, one who would bring judgment and justice to the world. But Jesus was different, and John struggled to understand.
Jesus’ words highlight the importance of humility and trust in our relationship with Him. When we take offense at Jesus, we are essentially saying that we know better than He does. We are putting our own understanding and expectations above His. But Jesus calls us to a different way, a way of trust and surrender. He calls us to believe in Him, even when we don’t fully understand.
So let us ask ourselves today: are we taking offense at Jesus? Are we struggling to trust Him, to believe in Him, to obey Him? Let us remember that following Jesus requires humility and trust. Let us seek to surrender our own understanding and expectations, and to simply believe in Him. May we be blessed as we trust in Jesus, and may we experience the joy and freedom that comes from following Him.
