Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’- Luke 4:8

Worship is a fundamental aspect of the Christian life. In Luke 4:8, Jesus says, “You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.” These words were spoken in response to Satan’s temptation to worship him instead of God. Jesus’ response is a clear affirmation of the first commandment: “You shall have no other gods before Me.” True worship is not just about singing songs or attending church services, but about giving our allegiance and devotion to the one true God.

Satan’s temptation was an attempt to divert Jesus’ worship away from God and towards himself. This is a tactic that Satan still uses today. He tries to get us to focus on other things – our careers, our relationships, our possessions – and to give them the worship and devotion that belongs to God alone. But Jesus’ response shows us that true worship is exclusive. We are to worship God, and God only.

So let us examine our lives today and ask ourselves: who or what am I worshiping? Is it God, or is it something else? Let us remember Jesus’ words and give our worship and devotion to Him alone. May our lives be characterized by a deep and abiding commitment to worshiping the one true God, and may we never be tempted to give our allegiance to anyone or anything else.
