“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.” (Hebrews 11:1-2)
Faith is a fundamental aspect of the Christian life. But what exactly is faith? The writer of Hebrews defines faith as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This means that faith is not just a feeling or an emotion, but a deep-seated trust in God and His promises. It’s a confidence that what God has said, He will do.
As we look at the examples of the ancients in Hebrews 11, we see that faith is not just a theoretical concept, but a practical reality. The men and women of old demonstrated their faith by their actions, trusting in God’s promises even when they couldn’t see the outcome. They were commended for their faith, not because they had all the answers, but because they trusted in the One who did. May we follow their example, living out our faith with confidence and assurance in the promises of God.
So let us ask ourselves, dear friends, what is our faith like? Is it a shallow, superficial faith, or is it a deep-seated trust in God and His promises? Are we living out our faith with confidence and assurance, or are we held back by doubt and fear? May we seek to grow in our faith, trusting in the promises of God and living out our lives with confidence and assurance in Him.
