“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.” (James 3:9)

As followers of Christ, we are called to live a life of integrity and consistency. But often, our words can betray us. We may use our tongues to praise God in worship, but then use the same tongue to curse or speak harm to others. James reminds us that this inconsistency is unacceptable. We are called to be people of blessing, not curse.

The problem is not just with what we say, but also with the attitude behind our words. When we speak negatively about others, we are revealing a heart that is critical, judgmental, and lacking in love. But when we speak words of blessing and encouragement, we are revealing a heart that is gracious, compassionate, and filled with the love of God. May we seek to be people who use our words to build up, not tear down.

So let us take James’ words to heart, dear friends. Let us seek to be people who use our tongues to praise God and bless others. May we be mindful of the power of our words, and may we use them to bring life, hope, and encouragement to those around us. May our words be a reflection of the love and grace of God, and may we bring glory to Him in all that we say.
