This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. – 1 Corinthians 4:1
Just a little over a decade ago, I was knee-deep into gambling and would spend my whole day at Gaming centers and ghettos alike; where card games and TV game gambling were prevalent. I remember thinking to myself at the time, what else could a young High School graduate waiting to get into the university spend his holiday doing? My involvement with gambling and the company I kept earned me a nickname I do not like to remember today. At the time, that nickname filled me with pride. I felt genuine street credibility. Men regarded me as an ardent gambler and I was proud.
In our verse for today, Apostle Paul challenges all Christians to reflect Christ so much that men will see Him when they see us. Habits are basically a reflection of what resides in our hearts. In the words of Jesus, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”– Luke 6:45. When my heart was filled with gambling, it brought forth a desire to be in the company of gamblers. This is so with us who call on the name of the Lord, us who are expected to profess the kingdom of God with our words, thoughts and actions. When our hearts are filled with the things of God, we become a direct reflection of Christ. We must therefore fill our hearts with the things of God.
I want us to ask ourself one question, are we knee-deep in the things of God? Are we constantly in the presence of God in worship, in prayer and in word? Our verse for today must challenge us into genuine fellowship with Christ. We must have a desire to be such good reflection of Him, that men would only regard us as His servants and Stewards of His mysteries. Today, I pray that we will induce the power of the Holy Spirit to walk the walk and become true servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries.
