Heritage of the Righteous

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. – Psalm 34:14

Today, the Psalmist is giving us all a charge to turn from evil and do good, and while we do that we must pursue peace. As a Christian who has experienced several phases in life, I understand that words cannot fully capture the significance of shunning evil and living a righteous life, however, if I were to coin it in one phrase it would be Psalm 37:39, which says that “the Lord saves the righteous and protects them in times of trouble.” There are many biblical instances where God saved his children who stood for Him from the hands of the wicked. Saul sought to kill David many times but failed. Daniel was thrown into a lions den but came out unscathed, Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego survived a fiery furnace that was heated seven times over. All these men abhorred evil and pursued righteousness and peace.

It is important that we follow the steps of righteous men of old, by doing so we will embody the values of righteousness, kindness, and reconciliation. Let us strive to be agents of positive change, spreading love, peace, and goodwill wherever we go. May this verse inspire us shun evil at all times and cultivate a spirit of empathy, forgiveness, and grace, leading us to build bridges of understanding and sow seeds of peace in a world hungry for harmony and unity.
