God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not —to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. – 1 Corinthians 1:28
Scripture tells us that our ways are not God’s ways, and our thoughts aren’t His thoughts. Throughout scripture, it is very evident that God has a reputation of using the downtrodden and lowly people in dignified ways. One powerful example of God using a lowly person in a dignified way is the story of David in the Bible.
David was a humble shepherd boy, the youngest in his family, often overlooked by society’s standards. However, God saw beyond David’s outward appearance and chose him to be the future king of Israel. Through God’s guidance and strength, David defeated the giant Goliath, showcasing God’s power working through this seemingly insignificant shepherd boy. David’s faith, courage, and trust in God elevated him from a lowly position to become one of the greatest kings in Israel’s history, demonstrating how God can exalt the humble and use them in extraordinary ways.
In the grand tapestry of God’s design, He often chooses the humble and overlooked to display His glory. God’s reputation of using the lowly and despised people and things serves as a powerful reminder to all who feel left out, overlooked and undermined. It also teaches us who are in high positions to be humble, because the Lord gives grace to the humble. We must understand that true greatness lies in surrendering to His will and recognizing His authority above all else.
The world may value power, wealth, and status, but God’s ways challenge these earthly standards. By embracing the lowly and despised, God showcases His transformative power, turning what the world deems insignificant into vessels of His grace and glory.
As we navigate our lives, let us remember that God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Embracing humility and recognizing God’s sovereignty allows us to witness His miraculous work in unexpected places. May we trust in His wisdom, knowing that through His divine orchestration, the weak are made strong, the despised are exalted, and His glory shines through the most unexpected vessels.
