When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. – Mark 12:25

Our verse for today speaks to the promise of the resurrection and the afterlife. It is a reality that many Christians look up to and eagerly await. The promise of being like the angels in heaven speaks to a state of pure and divine existence, free from earthly constraints like illness, disability, financial constraints and death. It beckons us to envision a realm where our focus shifts from earthly desires to a harmonious existence in the presence of God, where there is abundance.

In Romans 8:22-23, Paul tells us that those who have received insight to this promise do not only look to prioritize a relationship with God in this world. They also groan and eagerly await the promise of redemption and adoption to sonship. Today, we are being challenged to set our sights on the promise of the resurrection and redemption. “Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.”

Let us embrace the wisdom of Mark 12:25 as a guiding light on our journey. As we navigate the complexities of life, may we strive to cultivate relationships and actions that reflect the purity and love of the heavenly realm. Let us also be eagerly expectant of the promise of redemption and the realization of our adoption. God help us all, Amen.
