Who can speak and have it happen if the Lord has not decreed it? – Lamentations 3:37
Our verse for today speaks to the authority and sovereignty our Lord has in the affairs of man and this world. In spite of all the evil going on in the world, God’s decree on our lives is supreme and no one or power will be able to overturn it. In the book of Esther, we see a depiction of God’s authority overriding the plot and schemes of Haman, a powerful servant of King Ahasuerus.
Haman’s hatred towards the Jews stemmed from his inflated ego and desire for power. He felt insulted and furious when Mordecai, a Jewish man, refused to bow down to him, which fueled his vengeful plan to exterminate the entire Jewish population. But God was not in support of this, so the Jews cried out to God and He listened. Haman’s plan failed woefully, he lost his life and that of his entire family.
The story of Haman’s sinister intentions also serves as a powerful lesson on the importance of standing firm in God and trusting in divine intervention even in the darkest of times. Despite the grave threat posed by Haman, the Israelites found courage in their faith, ultimately overcoming the plot through unity, prayer, and unwavering trust in the Lord’s protection.
As we delve into the narrative of Haman’s scheme, we are reminded to trust God’s judgement in our lives and all situations. If the Lord does not will a thing, it shall not come to pass; regardless of how many powerful men scheme at bringing it into fruition. The Lord’s providence prevails for those who remain steadfast in their beliefs and continue to trust in His divine plan.
Let us draw inspiration from their unwavering faith and determination in the face of adversity, and may we never lose sight of God’s decrees and His say in our lives. Amen.
