Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. – Romans 6:12
In our verse for today, we see Apostle Paul write this to the Corinthians to emphasize the importance of resisting sinful desires and living according to the teachings of Christ. In this letter, Paul was addressing on of the many struggles and temptations faced by the early Christian community. By urging them to not let sin reign in their lives, Paul was reminding them to stay true to their faith and uphold moral values even in the face of challenges.
The Christian walk is not devoid of temptations or trials. More often than not the devil will set you up to stumble but just as James said, “resist the devil and he will flee from you,” Apostle Paul is challenging us to do same today. Our verse “therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires” is a call for us believers to overcome and control our flesh, our thoughts and actions. It is a charge for us to align all these aspects of our lives with the teachings of Christ and bring them under subjection of the Holy Spirit, as His guidance will help us lead a righteous life.
It is my prayer that we will all overcome our fleshy desires and that we will induce the power of the Holy Spirit to subject them to the will of God. In Jesus name. Amen.
