For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. – Psalm 1:6

Beloved in the Lord, our verse for today speaks to the profound truth of absolute protection God gives to men who walk in righteousness. It is an eternal assurance of security and safety for His children. I will be quick to add, that although God is all loving and faithful to His word; He would not force Himself on us, and if we walk in wickedness we are headed for destruction, as the second part of our verse implies.

God is not obliged to protect anyone who has crossed boundaries they were warned not to cross. If God says the path of the wicked is destruction and we refuse to obey then that will be our portion. This does not mean He is wicked, we must understand that the kingdom of God is built on principles and legalities. Almost certainly, the death of a wicked person brings no joy to Him – this is why in our verse for today, He warns that the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Who then is a wicked person? A wicked person is anyone who does not love their brother as themselves. A wicked person is one who condones sin by walking in the steps of sinners, a wicked person is one who sits in the company of mockers. Today, God is calling us to examine our hearts, He is calling us to repentance.

The way of the wicked leads to destruction but if we turn from our ways we will become the apple of His eye, and He will watch over us, as our verse implies.

To us who walk in righteousness, I pray that we will be continue to be empowered. To those struggling with sin, may the Lord empower you to overcome evil and walk in righteousness from this day onward, in Jesus name.
