It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality – 1 Thessalonians 3:3
In the fourth line of the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus emphasizes on the need for the believer to prioritize and look forward to the manifestation of the will of God in their lives. “Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven” – He says this to signify that God’s desire is that His children will allow His will be done on earth and in their lives, as it is in heaven.
Many a time I’ve been asked questions about the will of God in the lives of believers. Many people so often are unable to decipher what God wills for them. Usually, I encourage them to seek insight from God on what to do and where to go. Thankfully, our verse for today gives us some direction on what God wills for our lives, He wills that we are all sanctified and we avoid sexual immorality.
To be sanctified is to be purified, made anew and set apart for God. It takes a great deal of sacrifice to live a sanctified life. Any believer who seeks sanctification must do away with the things of this world that do not bring glory to God, like sexual immorality. Also, they must spend a considerable amount of time with the lord, studying and meditating on scripture while praying.
It is important for us to allow God’s will to totally direct our path because with God, we seal off all attempts from the enemy and present ourselves as God’s beacon of light to the world. We must strive to be the light Jesus called us to be. I pray that we will all be empowered to allow the will of God be done in our lives, so we can live a sanctified life in Jesus name. Amen.
