Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.” – Matthew 21:21

Brothers and Sisters, the gospel of Matthew recalls a time when a fig tree completely perished in a day after Jesus cursed it for being unproductive. Marveled at his, His disciples asked themselves “how could this fig tree die so quickly,” to which Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

We see in our verse for today, that Jesus’s emphasize is on the importance of unwavering faith and the incredible possibilities it can unlock. Just as Jesus spoke about moving mountains with faith, we are reminded that with true belief, we can overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and speak against any unproductive thing in our lives. By faith, we can speak to the illness to flee and it will obey. We can speak against the spirit of stagnation, pornography, gambling and they will all obey.

By nurturing our faith and casting aside doubt, we can witness miracles unfold in our lives and in the world around us. How do we nurture our faith in God? Romans 10:10 points that faith comes by hearing the word of God. This simply means that our faith grows exponentially when we spend time studying scripture and making it the standard by which we live by.

As we reflect on Jesus’ teachings on faith, let us cultivate a deep and unwavering trust in God’s providence. Let us remember that with faith as our foundation, we can move mountains, face adversity with resilience, and trust in the divine timing of God’s will. May we hold fast to our faith, knowing that through it, we can conquer challenges and manifest God’s love and grace in our lives.
