Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” – Matthew 19:14
May we never lose our wonder, May we never lose our wonder. Wide eyed and mystified, may we be just like a child staring at the beauty of our King – Amanda Cook (Wonder)
While Jesus and His disciples were journeying to Jerusalem, men and women came out in their numbers to see Him. Children too. His disciples initially tried to prevent the children from coming to Jesus. However, He corrected them, emphasizing the importance of allowing the children to approach Him. This moment highlights Jesus’ love for children and His desire for everyone, regardless of age, to come to Him with a childlike faith.
Children possess a sense of wonder, curiosity, and a willingness to learn that we, as adults, can often lose in the busyness of life. However, it is this pure innocence and eagerness for intimacy that draws us every close to our Lord.
Just as children trust without reservation, we are called to approach God with a similar innocence and trust, free from doubt and cynicism. It reminds us to embrace simplicity and humility in our faith journey, recognizing that the kingdom of heaven is for those who come to God with a pure and sincere heart, as stated in Matthew 18:3, “unless you become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Jesus’s invitation challenges us to maintain a childlike eagerness to seek and know God, to approach Him with a sense of awe and wonder, and to trust in His guidance without hesitation. Let us heed Jesus’ call to let the little children come to Him, understanding that the kingdom of heaven belongs to those with childlike faith.
May we cultivate a heart that is open, trusting, and receptive to God’s love and teachings. As we journey in faith, may we embrace the simplicity, purity, and unwavering trust that children naturally possess, knowing that in doing so, we draw closer to the heart of God and experience the fullness of His kingdom.
