For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends. – 2 Corinthians 10:18

As we delve into the essence of this verse, we uncover a profound truth that transcends human perceptions of approval. The Scripture reminds us that our worth is not determined by self-praise or worldly recognition but by the commendation bestowed upon us by the Almighty. This verse calls us to uphold a higher standard while performing our acts of righteousness. In a world where many people are obsessed with validation from external sources, in a world where people love to post tales of their benevolence on social media for likes and human commendations, it is crucial for us to prioritize and anchor our self-worth in the divine approval of God that far outweighs any commendation.

In Matthew 6, Jesus speaks against self-validation and seeking praises from others when performing our acts of righteousness. He teaches that when we give to the poor, we should not let our right hand see what our other hand gives out. Instead, we should cultivate the habit of giving alms without the eyes of the lot on us. He makes the same analogy for fasting and prayers as well. When we perform our acts of righteousness before men with the motive of making ourselves look good, we risk not getting any eternal reward.

It is importantly to also understand that when we center our lives on seeking the Lord’s commendation, we embark on a journey of spiritual depth and fulfillment. Our actions, motives, and intentions are purified as we align them with God’s will, paving the way for His divine favor to rest upon us. The commendation from the Creator of the universe holds immeasurable value, shaping our identity and purpose in ways that transcend earthly measures of success.

Let us, therefore, strive to live each day with a heart attuned to God’s commendation. May we sow seeds of righteousness, kindness, and love in all aspects of our lives in the most discreet way possible, knowing very well that the Lord’s approval is the ultimate reward. As we walk in alignment with His divine will, let’s be rest assured that His commendation far outweighs any fleeting recognition the world may offer.

Let us pursue and trust in the Lord’s commendation, for in His approval, we find true significance and everlasting blessings.
