I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty. – 2 Corinthians 6:18

Yesterday we learned that the righteous child is one who brings joy to the father. It was a day for fathers, one that has been given much significance in recent times. Today our verse is pointing us towards adoption. God’s adoption. The Lord promises to be a father to us. It is one thing to have our physical fathers still alive and very much present in our lives, but a Father who is a Spirit and Almighty gives us an added advantage in life.

When God says to us that – “I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me” – He is declaring His desire for intimacy. He is declaring His longing to be present in our lives. He wants to hold our hand every step of the way and guide us into our purpose. This reminds us of the profound love and care that God has for us, His children.

As we reflect on the promise of God adopting us as His sons and daughters, we are invited into a relationship of belonging and identity. Being part of God’s family means that we are cherished, valued, and accepted just as we are. This truth is a source of great comfort and assurance, especially in times of doubt or struggle. God’s declaration that we are His children carries with it the promise of inheritance, not of earthly riches, but of spiritual blessings and eternal life in His presence.

May we embrace the truth of being sons and daughters of the Lord Almighty, walking in the confidence of our identity in Christ. As we journey through life, let us lean into the love of our Heavenly Father, knowing that His care for us is unwavering and His guidance is sure. This verse calls us to live as children of God, reflecting His love and grace to the world around us. Let us rest in the assurance that we are deeply loved, cherished, and held in the embrace of our Heavenly Father, who delights in calling us His own.
