Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. – John 5:24
John 4:24 shows us that God is Spirit, and all who worship Him must worship Him in truth and in Spirit. In truth to signify utmost transparency with Him, in Spirit to signify continuous fellowship with Him. Our verse for today connotes that God is looking to communicate with us, and even though it will not be out of His reach to speak to our emotional and physical senses, He looks to speak to us more in Spirit. It is God’s desire to cross us over from death to life, He wills that we will forfeit judgement. On our part, we ought to ensure that we are positioned well to hear Him when He speaks.
Today, due to a lack of fellowship with God, the Spiritual senses of many Christians have gone dim and dull, and they have become unable to hear from God. As our verse for today suggests, your ability to hear from God will determine your survival. It will determine your longevity. We therefore have a responsibility, as children of God, to continually have fellowship with God and to stay in tune with the Holy Spirit. In prayer, in studying and in worship. In all this, may we also not forget to obey everything the Lord commands.
Brothers and sisters, let us not be like those who have eyes but cannot see, ears but cannot hear. These are people who have not surrendered and are not led by the Holy Spirit. As Apostle John affirms, those who are led by the Spirit of God are the true sons of God. It is my prayer that our spiritual senses will be awakened so we can hear the voice of God. So we can be led by the Spirit of God, as he desires and as we need. In Jesus name. Amen.
