The beginning of Wisdom

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. – Proverbs 1:7

As we reflect on the profound words from Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction,” we are reminded of the foundational truth that knowledge starts with a deep reverence for God. In a world that often values knowledge for personal gain or pride, this verse calls us to a different standard – one of humility and awe before our Creator.

When we acknowledge the supremacy of God in our lives, we open ourselves to a wealth of wisdom and insight that transcends human understanding. It is through this fear of the LORD, this deep respect and reverence, that we lay the groundwork for true knowledge to flourish within us.

On the contrary, those who disregard wisdom and instruction, who choose to follow their own ways and reject the guidance of God, are described as fools in this verse. Their pride and arrogance blind them to the beauty of divine wisdom and the transformative power of God’s instruction.

As we navigate our lives, let us remember that true knowledge begins with a humble heart that is willing to learn, grow, and be shaped by the wisdom of God. May we seek to embody the spirit of the early Christians in Acts, who courageously followed God’s will even in the face of opposition, exemplifying unwavering faith and dedication to the truth.

Let us prioritize allegiance to God above all else, embracing His wisdom and guidance with open hearts and minds. In doing so, we not only honor God but also enrich our lives with the profound knowledge that comes from walking in His ways.
