Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. – Philippians 2:12

As we reflect on Philippians 2:12, let’s consider the profound message it carries for our spiritual growth. Paul in this verse urges us to live out our faith diligently, not just when others are watching but especially when we are on our own. He calls us to work on our salvation with a sense of reverence and humility.

Many Christians live a two-faced life. Like the Pharisee and teachers of the law during the time of Jesus, many of us have succumbed to the temptation of engaging in many evil practices privately; although we maintain a good piously image when we are in public. Jesus spoke against this many times, He calls all who indulge in this hypocrites and sternly warms of its implications, in this life and eternally. (Matthew 6)

It is understandable that in our daily lives, we may easily fall into routines and forget the significance of our journey with Christ. These days radio, television and social media are filled with contents that glorify sin, contents that push the idea that sin is normal. However, this verse reminds us to approach our salvation with a deep sense of respect and awe. We have a responsibility to control our thought patterns and the content we consume, so we can block negativity and sin our lives, especially when we’re alone. We must understand that our relationship with God is not just a casual commitment; it requires our active participation and dedication.

Let us take this opportunity to introspect and evaluate our spiritual walk. Are we living out our faith authentically, both in public and in private? Are we approaching our salvation with the seriousness and reverence it deserves? Let us strive to deepen our connection with God, seeking Him with fear and trembling, knowing that He is the source of our strength and salvation.

May this reflection on Philippians 2:12 inspire us to be more intentional in our walk with God, always seeking to grow closer to God with humility and reverence.
