In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings, to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride. – Job 33:14-17

Many Christians are familiar with the story of Job. We know of him as a wealthy man who faced numerous trials and hardships. As a result, he lost his wealth, his children, and even his health. Despite all this, Job remained faithful to God and eventually, God restored his fortunes and blessed him abundantly. His is a powerful story of perseverance and faith.

During Job’s predicament, we see his wife desert him. His friends advised that he curse God and die and he had boils all over his body, rendering him very weak and always in pain. In Job 33 as seen in the above, we see prophet Elihu speak to Job, offering him wisdom and insight. Elihu encourages Job to listen and consider God’s message, reminding him that God is just and merciful. At this point in Job’s life he feels alone and deserted, but in our verse for today we see Elihu tell him that God is with him even if it doesn’t feel like it.

He says to Job that God speaks to us in dreams, visions, when deep sleep falls on us and we slumber in our beds. He sends us signals and warnings of the future. This is a powerful message we can all relate to. As an invisible God, dreams are one of God’s many tool He uses to communicate with us. As evidenced in scripture. He spoke to Abraham and Joseph through dreams, Isaac, Daniel, Isaiah, Joseph – Father of Jesus, Peter, Paul etc etc.

He still speaks to us today, in dreams and visions. And we have to be looking forward to that. In our challenging times, in our good times, during sickness, trial, persecution. Everyday God speaks to us. I pray our spiritual senses will be quickened by the spirit of God, so we can hear Him when He speaks, especially in our dreams.
