Show yourself Approved

Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. – 2 Timothy 2:15

I have been asked a lot of questions about how to memorize scripture, how to use it beneficially, first to God and then to oneself. It is an open secret that for most of us using it in times of difficulty or in the line of witnessing, we have always depended on the Holy Spirit. One of the core role of the Holy Spirt in this dispensation is to remind us of all truth in the word.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” – John 14:26

The above is not to say that we have not invested time reading scripture, no. Infact, it is not the duty of Holy Spirit to spoon-feed us with scriptural verses. Instead, He comes in to teach us truth and revelations in what we study from the Bible.

In our verse for today, Apostle Paul is charging his son, Timothy to study the word of God earnestly, in other to show himself approved. The Apostle knows that if Timothy spends time reading scripture, the Holy Spirit will guide and help him, and he will be fit for the office which has been bestowed on him as a shepherd of a church.

Today, like the Apostle charged Timothy, God is charging us also to study. First to ourselves and then to the world. When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wildernesses, “it is written” preceded all His responses. An indication that He was very knowledgeable in the things of God. This is the level God wants each and every one of His children to aspire to, He’s already laid the benchmark, saying – “greater things shall we do in His name.” Let us look beyond our perceived inability to memorize scripture, as those are whisperers from the devil. Let us look to the Holy Spirit for guidance and for remembrance, and He will come through for us. This I pray in Jesus name, Amen.
