What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? – Matthew 14:26

The above verse is Jesus’s response to a question from his disciples about the coming of the Son of Man. They were seeking clarification about the future and the signs of his return. He used that opportunity to teach them about the importance of righteous living and the ultimate judgment that awaits everyone based on their actions.

Jesus said this to emphasize the importance of living a righteous life and to encourage people to do good deeds. It serves as a reminder that our actions have consequences and that we will be rewarded or held accountable for them in the future. Jesus wanted to inspire people to live with purpose and to treat others with love and kindness.

I heard someone say that in this day, riches is better than a good name, signifying that spiritual morals have lost its value. An idea that is unfortunate, and sadly goes against the very principle of God, as we have read. The devil offered to give all the possessions of this world to Christ, but knowing they all can’t compare to what God has for Him in eternity, He turned them down. Many people today have been obsessed with the love for money and material things they grasp whatever the devil offers them as fast as they can, thinking less about the eternal implications of their actions. It is sad to see how many young people have prioritized material possession over spiritual values, when scripture has said that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, nor has entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for His people.

We should all strive to remind ourselves and others about the importance of living a meaningful and righteous life. By focusing on what truly matters, which is the word of God, we can all help everyone else to walk in the purpose and light of God. Amen.
