Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. – Hebrews 12:14
The word for Holy in Hebrew is “qadash”, which means to be sanctified, consecrated, and dedicated, or to be separated from the world and worldliness. It is a state of constantly hosting and living in God’s presence. As children of God, we cannot host His presence if we are constantly squabbling amongst ourselves and harboring ill will against each other.
Living in peace with everyone means fostering harmonious relationships, treating others with respect and kindness, and resolving conflicts peacefully. It’s about promoting a sense of unity, cooperation, and goodwill towards others, regardless of differences or disagreements. It’s a commitment to creating a peaceful and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. That is what God requires from us.
God is Holy, and all who seek Him must strive for Holiness. Just as our verse for today implies, “without holiness no one will see God.” We are blessed today, because we’ve learned that living peacefully with others draws us closer to Him. It is my prayer, that every one of us gets the strength to first of all make peace with ourselves, then go on to make peace with everyone we are not in good terms with. May the good Lord help us. Amen.
