But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. – Phillipians 4:19

We see a lot of believers proclaim the above verse every now and then, and rightly so. Our God is our ultimate provider, and He will provide all our needs according to His abundant riches. There’s one thing many of us forget, in the chapters preceding our verse for today, Apostle Paul lauds the church of Philippians for their generosity. They had such a big heart and were always willing to help those in need.

The Apostle mentions how time and again, they supported him financially, even when he was in difficult circumstances. Their generosity was evident in their willingness to provide for his needs and partner with him in spreading the message of love and hope. They didn’t only support Paul financially, but they also showed generosity in various other ways. They were actively involved in serving and caring for others, both within their community and beyond. They extended their help, love, and resources to those in need, demonstrating a genuine spirit of generosity. It’s truly inspiring how they lived out their faith through acts of kindness.

We can all learn from the church in Philippians and apply their spirit of generosity in our lives today. One way to emulate them is by being attentive to the needs of others and finding ways to help. Jesus gives us a commandment to love one another. In loving one another, we must carter for the needs of the poor and under privileged and all those in difficult situations. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, offering support, or giving our time and resources, we can extend mercy and generosity to those around us.

I hope that the next time we read, hear or proclaim this verse- “But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches” – we will be reminded about the acts of the church in Philippians, I pray that we can learn and emulate them in all means possible to the glorification of our Lord and master Jesus. Amen.
