Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands. – Deuteronomy 7:9
Oxford dictionary defines a faithful person as one who is loyal and steadfast to a person or a cause. To be faithful is to hold on to the idea of loyalty despite any challenge that may come your way, or the alternatives you’re presented with. Married couples make vows to remain faithful to each other to forsake all other men or women who come their way.
Our verse for today describes God as faithful. It says He is so faithful He keeps his covenant of love with us to a thousand generations. Which means that our descendants get to experience His love as much as we do, and we can be sure he will not forsake us in times of trouble. So powerful a word! The Bible says that even when we stop being faithful, our Lord will remain faithful to us because that is His nature. He cannot deny Himself. (2 Timothy 2:13)
In 2 Samuel 13; Absalom, the third son of David, was described in the Bible as an unfaithful child who rebelled against his father, King David. I pray we can all resist the temptation of rebelling against our our leaders and God, and that we can all be loyal and steadfast to God the way He is to us. I pray we can be able to extent that light to other people in our lives also. In our marriages, careers, day to day relationships, may faithfulness be our hallmark, even when we have reasons not to be. That is the very nature of our God and we must follow his steps.
