Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. – Galatians 6:9
I have learned that yielding to the Spirit of God attracts a great deal of discouragement and backward opinions. I recall this one time when a rich man called off a blood donation campaign he organizes every year because people were spreading lies about his source of wealth and motivations for the campaign.
The Bible teaches us that taking the narrow path is no mean thing, it has great hurdles and difficulty, and we must draw a lot of inspiration from God if we are to finish what task God has placed on our hearts. Our verse for today “Let us not grow weary in doing good” is a call for us to overcome every obstacle that will come our way in our quest to do good and obey God. The second part of the verse, “for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” gives us a blessed assurance that our benevolence is yielding a harvest for us and that at the right time we will reap its fruits; God will see to that.
Many of us today may be discouraged by negative opinions and energies we have been meted with in our quest to do good. Like the rich man in our first paragraph, there may be some of us who have called-off a campaign to help the poor and needy in the society because of lies but our Lord is telling us not to pay heed to them. Let’s keep our eyes on Him and keep doing what we do, He sees. He knows, and at the right time He will reward us. This is the word of the Lord.
