You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy. – Leviticus 19:2

The word for Holy in Hebrew is “qadash”, which means to be sanctified, consecrated, or to be separated from the world and worldliness. It is a state of constantly hosting and living in God’s presence.

This may seem a bit far fetched for many people but it is possible. you can be Holy. In fact, God is counting on you to be Holy, and our scripture confirms this, “You shall be Holy, for I the Lord your God am Holy.” Romans 12:2 gives us a fine blueprint on how to walk this path of consecration. We are charged to make a relentless effort everyday to renew our minds with the word of God; because His word hosts His presence, and His presence consecrates us. His presence completes us.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. – Romans 12:2

We have an obligation then, to control the things we allow into our hearts. Our conversations, the music we listen to, the movies we watch and the people we decide to move with can have a huge impact on our quest to live a holy life, it is important that we ensure that all these elements are in alignment with godliness. And finally, as scripture suggests in Philippians 4:8, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

Prayer – Lord, Help us overcome everything that distracts us from hosting your presence. Give us the grace to be steadfast in pursuing Holiness.
