Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I Am !” – John 5:58

“Christ laid down His Glory and eternal Majesty like a cloak and leaped into an earthly manger amid the lowing of the horned oxen, the bleating of the sheep, and the scent of the straw. He lay down in a barn because that is, after all, where a lamb should be born” – Rod Parsely; The Cross.

While several questions have been raised over the nature of Christ, obviously because he lived on this earth as every other man, the basis on which the Christian faith is forged is that Christ is God. Christ Himself made many utterances to confirm this claim, one of which is our verse for the day. He is the only authority by which Christians live because we believe He is what He say He is, and we can prove it.

Apostle Paul in one of His letters to Timothy, squashed every question raised over the deity of Christ – 1 Timothy 3:16 – “And without controversy, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (NKJV)

The Christian trinitarian school of thought hold the view that God operates in three different dimensions. First, He operates as a Father, which we see in full swing in the Old Testament the most. Secondly as God the Son, which is seen in Christ throughout the duration of His life and thirdly as the Holy Spirit, which is this current dispensation. Christ himself made several assertions that back this claim. John 10:30, 14:11.

Rod Parsely makes a strong case for Christ being “God the Son” in his book “The Cross”, “I will prove to you that I am your friend because I will become as you are. Not deity humanized nor humanly defied. All God, and yet all man”. Apostle John clearly points it out that Christ existed before the foundations of this world was made, he clearly states that from the very beginning Christ, who happens to be the Word, was God – John 1:1-4

The debate over the nature of Christ is unlikely to end anytime soon. However, one thing is certain, whether Christ be “God the Son” or “the Son of God”, He has the God nature in Him. He is eternal and His works cushion this claim. For us, salvation is found in no other person except in Him (John 14:6) and we have to accept fully our role as bearers of this good news. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.

As charged, we will do well to share this good news and make disciples of all nations. I pray the Lord strengthens us. Amen.
