“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” – Ecclesiastes 3:1
A seed exposed to the sun too early gets destroyed. It needs time, solitude and darkness to evolve into a plant to be able to withstand the sun and draw from it. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die. A time to sow and a time to reap, a time to kill and a time to heal. God has set everything up to react the way it should in it’s own season. Winter does not come forth unless it’s time is due, same as summer, and spring, and fall. This clearly illustrates God’s desire for things to be done in order, “God is not a God of disorder” – 1 Corinthians 14:33
In Ecclesiastes, King Solomon attempts to impart this wisdom to us. He makes mention of the necessity for us to comprehend this idea and acknowledge that there are situations over which we have no control, and that we will be wise to rely on God for guidance. Just as the elements of the universe are predetermined to respond to certain periods and seasons, so too are God’s breakthrough points predetermined for our lives. Jesus walked the face of the earth 30 years and no one bar his parents had a clue what His purpose was, until the fullness of time had come. Abraham did not have his promised son until he was 100 years old. Isaac endured childlessness for 28 years in his marriage; but in the fullness of time, they all had the breakthrough they so desired. “A person’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand their own way?” – Proverbs 20:24
Scripture teaches us that awful things happened whenever men attempted to dictate the periods and seasons that God had established. We see what happens when Sarah convince Abraham to lay with Hagar, or when Jacob steals his brothers blessings, or when Saul goes ahead of prophet Samuel and takes up the role of a priest to offer sacrifices to God just before a war. The consequences of these actions were easily avoidable if the parties involved relied on God’s guidance. I pray we will all have the patience and sound mind to endure through the phases life presents us, while we stay in constant fellowship with God and await His deliverance. Amen.
