Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2
A nonconformist is a person whose behavior does not conform to prevailing ideas or practices. A standout figure who stands for a course and refuses to allow anyone change his stance. In the above scripture, Apostle Paul calls on all Christians to be nonconformists to all patterns, ideas and practices that are not guided by the word of God.
Our minds only respond to what we feed it. When your mind is informed by an evil principle, it becomes an instrument of evil. When it is informed by the Word of God, it becomes an instrument of good. The devil is constantly waging battle for control of our minds, and we must resist him at all cost. As ambassadors of God’s Kingdom, we must take control of our minds and subject it to the things of God. We must leave no room for compromise or get entangled by the things of this world. Apostle Paul likens Christians to Soldiers.
No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. – 2 Timothy 2:4
Conformity to the patterns of this world will only beget carnality and rob us the chance to have a genuine fellowship with the Holy Spirit. This is not to say that nonconformity alone to the world is guarantee to transformation, you can be a nonconformist and still not be transformed if you do not spend time learning the word of God and doing what it says.
The transformed mind is the mind acting under the influence of the Word of God. When we depend on scripture, it moulds us into godly people and equips us for service to the kingdom of heaven.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”. – 2 Timothy 3:16
Constant study of scripture in addition to nonconformity is what brings about the transformation God requires from us. The word of God is Spirit, and when we allow it to assimilate into every fibre of our minds, it becomes a Spirit that guides us into all truth.
I pray that we receive strength to undo habits that sway us from God. I pray that we receive strength to be nonconformist and stand for God, for the real sons of God are those who are led by His Spirit.
God bless you!
