My Ways Are Higher

For as the Heaven’s are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways. And my thoughts higher than your thoughts – (Isaiah 55:9)

After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. “Then they gathered around him and asked him: ‘Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel? ‘” – (Acts 1: 6)

History tells us that Rome ruled the kingdom of Israel at the time of Jesus, and that God’s people eagerly anticipated the day when God would deliver them from the Romans. So, the question posed by the disciples may have been valid, but Jesus’ response was a redirection to a much greater call and purpose.

“It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” – (Acts 1:7-8)

While the disciples were looking to God for the restoration of the Kingdom, He was looking to empower them with the Gift of the Holy Spirit and make them witnesses to the Good news of salvation. Here, it is evident that God had a different, far more important plan for their life – which is also the case for majority of us.

God’s plan for our lives is seldom ours, and He always has a bigger plan than what we could ever imagine. It is important that we approach every day with this perspective. As we trust Him for guidance, may we be empowered to surrender our goals and projections at the feet of His throne, and embrace fully the purpose for which we have been called.

For eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man. The things which God has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
